Biography

Born in Minsk, in the family of a pharmacist and subsequently prominent pharmacologist Aron Osherovich (Arkady Osipovich) Kovarsky (1872-1941) and Maria Osipovna Goldenberg [1] [2] . His grandfather, Osher Kivelevich Kovarsky (1844-1910), headed the trading house and was chairman of the bank in Vilna; his father’s brother, Mikhail Osipovich (Osherovich) Kovarsky (1875-1954), was the director of the Moscow Dental School (later dental, 1919-1923) [3] . My father owned a pharmacy in Minsk [4] .

He graduated from the Higher State Courses in Art History (VGKI) at the State Institute of Art History (1924) and Leningrad State University (1925). Since 1924, a researcher of the II category (subsequently a graduate student) of the Department of Verbal Arts of the Institute of Fine Arts, worked as an assistant at the All-Russian State Institute of Fine Arts, conducted a seminar on Russian literature of the 20th century, and from the beginning of 1924 until the fall of 1925 was the secretary of the Speech Section of the Department of Verbal Arts of the Institute of Fine Arts.
