In the early 1970s, he became popular in the USSR thanks to the Soviet-Romanian musical film “ Songs of the Sea ” ( 1970 ), in which he starred together with Natalya Fateeva (behind the scenes Larisa Mondrus sang for her). The song “Sing, guitar!” (Music by T. Pop - verses by R. Rozhdestvensky ), first performed in this film by Dan Spataru, became a hit and then was repeatedly sung by other performers ( Muslim Magomayev , Margarita Suvorova) [1] .

Biography

He studied at the Institute of Physical Education and Sports, was about to become a football coach. A successful performance at a student concert in Bucharest changed his plans. He was invited to sing on the radio, then on television, and soon he became a popular pop singer in Romania, performing with the best light music orchestras [2] .

He holds the world record for the duration of applause from the public (16 minutes 19 seconds). This happened in 1967 at an international festival in the Cuban city of Varadero [3] .

In 1972, Dan met his future wife Sida. In 1974, their daughter Dana was born [3] .

Died of myocardial infarction. He was buried in the Bellu cemetery in Bucharest . At his funeral was attended by more than 10 thousand people.
