The province consisted of the eponymous and only province , subdivided, in turn, into 21 communes.

The indigenous population of Lappi are the Sami , who now constitute the minority of the province.

On January 1, 2010, the division of Finland into the province was abolished [3] , and the administrative-territorial unit of the first level was the province of Lappi , which, however, occupies the same territory as the province.

Nature

The various parts of Lappi are very different from each other. The southern and western parts are marine, river, with lush vegetation. In central and eastern Lapland, forests and hills prevail. And in northern Lapland, which extends beyond the upper distribution of woody vegetation, only small deciduous trees and shrubs grow. Hills are usually bare-top and easy to travel around. [four]

Coat of Arms

The coat of arms of the province of Lapland is the coat of arms of two historical provinces - Lappi and Pohjanmaa ( Fin. Pohjanmaa , Swede. Ostrobothnia ), assembled together.
