Santa Cecilia in Trastevere is a medieval titular basilica in Rome in honor of St. Cecilia ( Italian: Santa Cecilia ), a Christian martyr and patroness of music. The church is located in the Trastevere district. The first church on this site arose in the V century , according to legend, on the site of the house of the daughter of the Roman patrician - Cecilia and her husband Valerian, who died under martyrdom under Alexander Severus .

The new building was erected in the IX century following the example of the churches of Santa Sabina , San Lorenzo in Lucina , and in the XVI century it was rebuilt in the Baroque style . Subsequent restorations took place in 1725, 1823, 1955 and 1980.
In front of the altar there is a marble statue “Martyrdom of Holy Cecilia” by Stefano Maderno (1599-1600). The relics of the saint were transferred from the catacombs of St. Callistus to the church.
The church contains fragments of the Last Judgment fresco by Pietro Cavallini ( 1293 ). The ceiling is decorated with the fresco Coronation of St. Cecilia (1725).
