Bracket ( German: Kragstein - bracket, holder ) - a cantilever supporting part or structure used for fastening on a vertical plane (wall or column) of parts of machines or structures that protrude or extend in the horizontal direction. Structurally, the bracket can be made in the form of an independent part or a multi-part design with a brace, as well as a significant thickening in the base part. The mechanical principle of action is the resistance of the material to cleavage and shear.

The bracket in the technique is mainly used for fixing on vertical planes parts and components of machines and devices (for example, bearings ). Brackets are also used for mounting trolley wires, cables , antennas , etc.

The bracket in architecture , as a rule, is a supporting element of the protruding parts of the building and is a ledge in the wall, often profiled and decorated (with decorative curls or other decorations). Such brackets are mainly used in architecture using order elements, and serves to support balconies, strongly protruding decorative and / or functional cornices, etc.

Brackets are also used for fixing masonry during the construction of buildings and structures. So, there is a technology of the so-called ventilated facade . The bracket is attached to a monolithic ceiling, a front brick (facing brick) or other piece masonry element is placed on it. It turns out a multilayer structure: a bearing base, insulation, air gap, facing masonry. Usually every two floors or 7 m, the maximum masonry height can be 12 m. The material of the brackets is stainless austenitic steel (A4 (Russian analogue is 10Kh17N13M2 steel), DUPLEX ). Between the brackets, special flexible connections are made.

The bracket in the automotive industry is one of the most common parts, since it is with the bracket that the standard and additional equipment are attached to the car body (an example is the most different types of brackets: for attaching sound signals, lighting devices, license plates, etc.).
