Hammer hammer - a mechanical hand tool of percussion [1] , intended for loosening and cracking not very strong materials , for example: sedimentary rocks , asphalt , concrete structures. The working body is usually a metal chisel or peak . The mechanization of the instrument consists in acting on the executive body a series of mechanical impulses from the striker , which is driven by some kind of drive . The frequency of exposure is 16 ... 25 Hz . When a chisel imparts a shock pulse to the chisel side (butt plate), the cutting edge of the chisel acts on the material being processed, cutting it or splitting it.

According to the type of drive, jack hammers are divided into:

  • pneumatic - driven by compressed air from the compressor ;
  • electric - working through the conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy;
  • gasoline - using an internal combustion engine built into the hammer body.
  • hydraulic and so forth

The first easel version of the jackhammer was invented by the engineer Germain Sommeillet in the late 1850s .

Sommeil pneumatic jackhammer

The first jackhammer was invented in 1897 by engineer Georg Leiner [2] .

January 30, 1894 in Detroit, an American Charles King patented an easel pneumatic drill (jackhammer).
