Muineira can consist of two or more parts. Older versions usually consisted of two parts, newer versions of two or more.
Muineira is performed in traditional costumes to the accompaniment of musical instruments - bagpipes , tambourine , small drum and others, as well as often accompanied by singing .
Muineira is also called the fast melody to which the dance is performed.
Historical background
Muineira is considered to be a rather old dance inherited by the Galicians from Celto Iberians . This is evidenced by the traditional cry - aturusho ( galis. Aturuxo ), strong, long and sharp, which the surrounding people accompany the dance, cheering on the dancers, and which has Celtic origins - it was a battle cry with which in ancient times they attacked. However, the first documented evidence of Moineur dates from the XVI century .
The etymology of the name of the Muineira from the word “mill” made it possible for some researchers to assert that the dance was originally popular among millers . According to another version, the muineira got its name from the place, that is, from the mill and the surrounding territory, where rural dance parties were usually held.
Muineira is a festive and everyday dance (for example, performed at parties after a busy day).
Distribution and species
Muineira is a purely Galician dance, but is also known in Asturias . Local versions of dance are known, for example, the Muineira of Lugo province.
There are two main types of Muinera:
- the old muineira ( galis. muiñeira vella ) - always with singing and accompanied by playing the tambourine pandeyrete.
- a new muneyra ( galis. muiñeira nova ) - owes its origin to professional musical culture and has an instrumental character, sometimes has a prelude.
