Biography
Vitold Gurchin was born on December 16, 1831, received his education in the Brest Cadet Corps, from which he was released on May 29, 1849 as an ensign in the Life Guards Pavlovsky Regiment . Then he studied at the Noble Regiment . Gurchin, who was promoted to entrants, entered the Nikolaev Military Academy , which he graduated in 1859. In 1861, he was appointed an officer of the General Staff in the Caucasian Military District , where he took part in affairs with the highlanders several times, and in 1862 he was awarded the Order of St. 3rd degree Anna with swords and bow.
In the years 1870-1874. commanded the 82nd Infantry Dagestan Regiment and then was listed by the General Staff. On June 20, 1876, according to the manifesto, he was promoted to major general (with seniority of June 15, 1877).
In 1877, Vitold Vikentievich Gurchin, as an officer of the General Staff, took part in the Russian-Turkish war in the Caucasus Theater and was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav 1st degree with swords and a golden sword with diamonds and the inscription "For courage . "
At the beginning of 1878 he was appointed chief of staff of the operating corps on the Turkish-Caucasian border and, at the end of the war, was at the disposal of the commander of the Caucasian army. In the years 1881-1882. Gurchin commanded the Caucasian Rifle Brigade, from 1885 he commanded the local troops of the Caucasus Military District, and in 1886 he was promoted to lieutenant general .
Among other awards he had the Order of St. Anna of the 1st degree (1880) and St. Vladimir 2nd degree (1883)
Vitold Vikentievich Gurchin died on December 10, 1887.
Gurchin's younger brother, Alexander Vikentievich (1833-1902), was a general from infantry, he also participated with honors in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 at the Caucasian Theater and subsequently commanded the Vilna Military District.
