Nivh Dif

“Nivkh Dif” ( Nivkh word ) is a Soviet and Russian free newspaper, published in parallel in Nivkh and Russian languages, published in the village of Nekrasovka, Okhinsky District, Sakhalin Region [1] [2] [3] .

The newspaper has been published since 1990 once a month on four pages. Until 1996, it was an addendum to the Sakhalin Oilman newspaper, later it turned into an independent publication with a circulation of 350 copies [4] . As of 2013, 249 issues were issued [1] .

It is the only Nivkh-language newspaper in the world (the Nivkhgu newspaper Nivxgu mәkәr-qlaj-d̦if was published in the 1930s), but due to funding problems it is on the verge of closure [4] [5] . The founder of the newspaper is the administration of the Sakhalin Oblast, the administration recognizes the official status of the newspaper, which adds weight to the publication itself and also popularizes the written Nivkh language [1] . News of the districts inhabited by the Nivkhs , as well as materials on the culture and language of the Nivkhs are published. The chief editor is Fedor Sergeyevich Migun.
