Biography
Laurent Angliviel de Labomel was born on January 28, 1726 in Geneva in a Protestant family, was raised in the Catholic faith, but then joined the Reformed Church of his native city [3] .
He taught French literature in Copenhagen .
In 1751, in Berlin, he met Francois-Marie Aruet Voltaire , with whom they had a serious quarrel [3] .
In 1752, Laurent Angliviel de Labomel moved to the capital of France . For his " Notes sur le siècle de Louis XIV " (3 vols. Frank., 1753) he ended up in the Bastille for six months. In 1756 he was again imprisoned for a year for the letters Maintenon printed by him in his Mémoires pour serviràl 'histoire de M-me Maintenon . Upon release, he was expelled from Paris without the right of entry. The writer settled in Toulouse, got a place at the Royal Library there and died on November 17, 1773 [3] .
The conflict with Voltaire greatly influenced Labomel, and many of his works are closely related to the personality of the French thinker and his writings. At the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th centuries, the pages of the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary stated that "the main fame " of the writer is based on his fierce literary hostility to Voltaire [3] .
