Joseph Michael Aqaba ( Joe ) (born May 17, 1967 , Inglewood , California ) - NASA teacher, hydrogeologist and astronaut [1] [2] . In May 2004, Aqaba was enlisted in the astronaut training group 19 [3] , as part of . He became the first astronaut, whose parents come from Puerto Rico .

Education
In 1990, Aqaba received a bachelor 's degree in geology from the University of California, Santa Barbara , and in 1992, a master 's degree in geology from the University of Arizona . Aqaba was a sergeant in the US Marine Corps , where he served for 6 years. He worked as a hydrogeologist in Los Angeles , spent 2 years in the Peace Corps and taught more than 300 teachers in the Dominican Republic modern teaching methods. He also taught at Dannellon High School and Melbourne High School in Florida [4] .
Spaceflight
March 15-28, 2009 was a member of the STS-119 mission, as a “flight specialist - teacher”. The purpose of the mission was to deliver and install the latest section of the S6 solar panels on the ISS .
May 15, 2012 started as a flight engineer of the Soyuz TMA-04M spacecraft and the crew of the ISS on the program of the 31st and 32nd main expeditions [5] .
September 13, 2017 at 00:17:02 Moscow time, he started as a flight engineer for the crew of the Soyuz MS-06 spacecraft and the crew of the International Space Station under the program of the main space expeditions ISS-53 / 54 [6] . The flight to the ISS was carried out according to the “short” six-hour four-turn scheme. At 05:55 Moscow time, on September 13, the Soyuz MS-06 spacecraft automatically docked to the International Space Station at the docking module of the Poisk module [7] .
