Botanical Description
Fruits and seeds of argan barbed.
Toulouse Museum Argania is a tree with thorny branches, reaching 8-10 m in height and living 150-200 years.
The leaves are small, 2-4 cm long, oval, with a curved end. The flowers are small, with five pale yellow-green petals, blooming in April. The fruit is 2-4 cm long and 1.5-3 cm wide. The fetus contains a solid core with 2-3 seeds rich in fats , surrounded by a layer of unpleasantly smelling pulp. The Argan fruit needs one year to ripen.
UsageArgan oil is used in cooking and cosmetology . Due to the significant content of tocopherols, oil is famous for its beneficial effects on the human cardiovascular system .
Oil ProductionArgan oil is a traditional export commodity of Morocco. From 100 kilograms of argan fruit, 5 kg of seeds are obtained, which produce up to 2 liters of oil. The fruits of 7 trees are consumed per liter of oil. Processing takes 12 hours of working time, for which one employee manages to manually process 50 kg of fruits. The selected nuclei are rubbed with the stone "Rba", which is used as a millstone. Before pressing, the seeds are fried for the production of confectionery oil, or they are cold pressed to produce the oil used in cosmetics. Roasting adds a nutty flavor and aroma to the butter.
