Life and creativity
Secondary education in the Leipzig school of St. Thomas . After receiving his first painting lessons, Carus enters the University of Leipzig (1804–1810), where he studies the natural sciences , philosophy, and medicine ; graduated from university in medicine in 1811. While studying at the university also attends drawing courses. Until 1814, he worked as an assistant at Jörg at the birth station of the Trier Society in Leipzig, then he received the title of professor at the Department of Obstetrics in Dresden . The name of Karl Gustav Carus is the university clinic of the Dresden Technical University .
In 1815, in Dresden, Carus met Caspar David Friedrich , who had an enormous influence on Carus' artistic work and friendship with which he continued for many years. Carus travels a lot, the artist's trips to Italy and England were especially fruitful in creative terms.
In the years 1815-1824 he wrote his “Nine Letters on Landscape Painting” , one of the main theoretical works that laid the foundations of the German romantic school of painting. Carus was also a friend of Goethe and wrote a book-biography of the poet, which was published in 1863.
