Born in 1962 in New York , in a Jewish family. Known for his television show The Daily Show , which is a parody of the news, coupled with political satire. The first release of the program took place in 1999 on Comedy Central . The program quickly gained popularity and did not go unnoticed by critics: in 2001, Stuart was awarded his first Emmy Award for it. Subsequently, The Daily Show has been repeatedly awarded with both an Emmy and other television awards.

John Stewart hosted the 78th and 80th Academy Awards. He is a co-author of the books America - one of the best-selling books of the USA in 2004 , and Earth , published in 2010.

Based on a vote of 500 thousand readers of Askmen magazine, recognized as the most influential male in the US in 2010.

Biography

Stewart was born in New York, at birth had the name Jonathan Stewart Leibowitz. His mother, Marian, is an education consultant and teacher. His father, Donald Leibowitz, was a professor of physics at College of New Jersey from 2001 to 2008. Parents divorced when he was 11 years old, and, according to him, had little contact in the future [4] . Along with his older brother Lawrence Leibowitz, now COO at NYSE Euronext , he grew up in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. In 1984, Stuart graduated from the College of William and Mary .

Stuart returned to New York in 1986, where he made his debut as a stand-up actor in The Bitter End , in the same place where his idol of the genre Woody Allen began [5] . At the beginning of his career, he began using the stage name John Stuart, discarding the last part of the name and changing the spelling of Stuart to Stewart .

In 2013, Stewart made his debut as a director, making the film " Rose Water ." The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on August 29, 2014 [6] .

Personal life

Stuart is Jewish by birth, but he is not religious [7] . In 2000, Stewart married Tracy McShane, whom she had been dating for 4 years. In 2001, they changed their name to Stuart together. The couple has two children.

In 2000, he was ranked among the democrats , although, according to him, his position is closer to independent voters or socialists [8] .
