Aboriginal breed (from Latin aborigines - indigenous inhabitants) of domestic animals is a historically established system of practical use of a single domesticated animal species in certain economic and landscape-climatic conditions, by fixing adaptation to these conditions in heredity. Indigenous breeds are also called natural breeds , as well as " primitive ", in contrast to breeds " factory " bred in pedigree methods of directional selection . Indigenous breeds often carry rare and endangered genes that are absent in factory breeds [1] .
Indigenous breeds include:
- Kabardian and Akhal-Teke horses;
- gray Ukrainian cattle ;
- Romanovskaya and fat tail sheep;
- Chinese lop-eared pig;
- shower chickens ;
- all breeds of reindeer [2] ;
- Caucasian and Central Asian Shepherd Dogs (see also ancient breeds of dogs );
- Siberian cat ;
- Armenian wolfhound - gamper ;
- van cat ;
- Samoyed dog ;
- Kazakh Tazy and many others.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature reports that over the past 20 years, from 15 to 30% of indigenous breeds have disappeared in the Russian Federation , and more than 20% of the total number of breeds are in critical condition.
