History
The original wooden cemetery church in honor of the Holy Trinity in Verkhneudinsk existed since 1770 and was assigned to the Odigitrievsky cathedral . In 1798-1809, a new stone church was erected. The construction of the Upper Udinsky merchant Vasily Pakholkov began, and the merchant Afanasy Naletov completed it.
The main temple of the Holy Trinity was consecrated in 1816. The northern chapel in honor of the Protection of the Mother of God was consecrated in 1818. Much later, a southern chapel was built in honor of St. Innocent of the Irkutsk wonderworker , consecrated in 1856. In 1857 they began to build a stone fence of the cemetery.
With the closure of the Odigitrievsky Cathedral in 1929, the Holy Trinity Church became the main Orthodox church in the city.
In 1940, the Holy Trinity Church was closed. In the building of the temple is located film warehouse.
In 1949, a cemetery was demolished and soon this place was converted into a city garden, a dance floor was added to the church building. It was planned in the building of the temple to open the museum of architecture of Ulan-Ude.
On September 29, 1971, the Council of Ministers of the Buryat ASSR accepted the building of the Holy Trinity Church for state security.
The building of the church with the adjacent territory was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church on January 18, 1988 by a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Buryat Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and by order of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Buryatia dated June 15, 1991. In 1988, repair and restoration work began in the temple. The first service was held on December 28, 1991. In 1992, crosses on the domes were installed, and the bells - on September 14, 1994.
From September 15, 1992 to March 29, 1994, the rector of the church was I. A. Arzumanov (from December 1, 1991 - cleric ) [1] .
Arseny Chapel
One of the first burials at the Trinity cemetery was the grave of the Nizhny Novgorod hieromonk Arseny, who was exiled in 1767 to the Nerchinsky Assumption Monastery . In 1773, he was transferred to Holy Trinity Selenginsky Monastery , on the road to which Arseny died on June 13, before reaching Verkhneudinsk five miles away. On June 14, 1773, he was buried in the cemetery of Holy Trinity Church. Later, a crypt was built over the grave, and then, at the expense of the merchant IG Bayborodin, a stone chapel was located at the southwestern corner of the church.
By mistake, it was believed that Arseny (Matseevich) , the former metropolitan of Tobolsk and Siberia, was buried in the cemetery. From the 1830s or 1840s, the icon of St. Arseny Velikago was kept in the chapel. It was painted in 1815 by the dependent merchant Login Orvil Orlov. On May 6 , on the day of remembrance of St. Arseny the Great, in Verkhneudinsk, the funeral service for the dead was usually performed at the Trinity cemetery church and a great dirge was sent to the tomb of Arseny [2] .
