Life and work
Born in a poor family. He studied painting at an evening school at the Academy di Brera in Milan . In 1886, it was determined with the theme of the works: the artist was attracted to distant landscapes with peasants and shepherds, made by the pointillist "point" style. Such is his “Alpine Triptych” , consisting of paintings “Nature”, “Life”, “Death” . The content and form of his paintings indicate significant attention paid by the artist to the details of the image. Repeatedly turned to religious topics: “Evening Sounds” (Ave Maria) (1887, Mershwil, private collection).
The artist’s appeal to symbolism is felt primarily in his painting “Evil Mothers” . In the later works of Segantini, besides symbolist elements, tendencies of art Nouveau are also easily guessed.
He was buried in the village of Maloy . The following is carved on the granite slab of the artist: “Art and love conquer time” ( Italian: Arte ed amore vincono il tempo ).
