Vanik Surenovich Zakharyan ( March 21, 1936 , Meghri , Armenia ) - Armenian mathematician, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia , USSR master of sports in chess ( 1960 ), FIDE Honorary Vice President.

Biography

In 1959 he entered the graduate school of Yerevan State University with a degree in “Theory of Functions”, and in 1963 he defended his thesis at the Mathematical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences . Its supervisor was Academician M.M. Jrbashyan .

In 1962 - 1977 he worked at Yerevan State University , at the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR , at the H. Abovyan State Pedagogical Institute .

In 1976 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Features and uniqueness of the solution of problems of meramorphic functions on sets”.

Since 1977, V. S. Zakharyan, by decision of the Scientific Council of the SEIU, is the head of the Department of Mathematics of the SIUA.

In 1979, he received the academic title of professor. V. S. Zakharyan combines scientific activity with teaching.

In 1990, V. S. Zakharyan was elected a corresponding member, and in 1996 - a full member, academician of the NAS RA.

V. S. Zakharyan is the author of more than 100 scientific, scientific and methodological works. Under his leadership, many defended their thesis. He is a participant in many international mathematical conferences. Under his editorship, 2 journals of the NAS RA are published.

V. S. Zakharyan is also a master of sports of the USSR in chess, a multiple champion of the city and republic.

Twice became the champion of Armenia in chess ( 1961 , 1976 ) [1] .

For 10 years - from 1994 to 2004 - led the chess federation of Armenia. He was one of the main organizers of the 32nd World Chess Olympiad ( 1996 ) and the 5th team world championship ( 2001 ) [2] .

Since 1990 V.S. Zakharyan Deputy. Chairman of the Chess Federation of Armenia, since 1994 - Chairman, since 2004 - Honorary Chairman.

Since 1996, V. S. Zakharyan is a deputy. Chairman of the International Chess Federation, in whose office he was re-elected in 1998 and 2002 .

FIDE awarded him the diploma No. 1 of the international organizer for organizing the chess Olympiad in 1996 .

His name was recorded in the FIDE Golden Book.

Rewards

  • He was awarded the Movses Khorenatsi Medal for his contribution to the development of physical education and sports, and in 2003 he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
  • In 2003, he was awarded the Anania Shirakatsi Medal for his contribution to science and education.
