Design
In 1977, the design of the first line was started. Well drilling has begun in the city; geological features of the Samara soil are being investigated. The presence of flooded horizons was discovered. By 1979, Metrogiprotrans had developed a technical project for the construction of the first metro stage, which was approved by the Council of Ministers of the USSR with the following indicators: building length - 17.32 km, number of stations - 13, estimated cost - 442.4 million rubles. (in prices of 1991) [2] .
Construction
In 1980, construction began on the first stage of the Samara Metro. The first 4.5 km stretch of four stations was commissioned at the end of 1987 .
In 1992 - 1993, three more stations began to operate, in 2002 - another one. The pace and volume of work fell sharply due to a significant lack of funding, and this problem began to be overcome only recently [3] . In December 2007, the Rossiyskaya station was commissioned, and on February 1, 2015, the Alabinskaya station .

Perspectives
The construction of the transition to the new Samarskaya station is scheduled to begin in 2019 [5]
The construction of the first line of the Samara metro is planned to be completed by the Teatralnaya station with the installation of turnoff dead ends and the end of the section from Kirovskaya to the Krylya Sovetov station .
The construction program of the Samara Metro is designed until 2020. The total investment is 13 billion rubles.
The construction of Phase I of the Samara Metro is planned to be completed by the end of 2020 at the Teatralnaya station with the installation of turnoff dead ends and the end of the section from Kirovskaya to the Krylya Sovetov station. The completion of Phase I construction will ensure the connection of the industrial zone with the cultural and administrative center of the city with comfortable transport [6] .
July 14, 2012 Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Maxim Sokolov announced that the federal budget plans to resume financing the construction of the Samara metro [7] .
