José Augusto Pinto de Almeida ; born April 13, 1937 , Barreiro ) is a Portuguese footballer and coach . As a player he is known for playing for Benfica , in ten years, Jose Augusto scored 175 goals for the club in 369 matches. As part of Benfica, Jose became the eight-time champion of Portugal and the three-time winner of the Portuguese Cup , and also twice won the European Cup in 1961 and 1962 .

For the national team of Portugal, Jose Augusto from 1958 to 1968 spent 45 matches and scored 9 goals. As part of the team, he participated in the 1966 World Cup , in which his team took third place.
After the completion of his playing career, Jose in 1972 became the head coach of the Portuguese national team, but at the helm of the national team he lasted only one year. He later coached the Portuguese clubs Vitoria Setubal , Barreirency , Portimonenci , Farenche , Penafiel , Logronies , as well as the Moroccan Cavcab and Fatah Rabat . From 2004 to 200? year coached the women's national team of Portugal.
