Medicinal properties
For therapeutic purposes, the aerial part of the plant is used. Roots contain 12% fatty oil. Carbohydrates and related compounds are found in the aerial part: adonite ; cardenolides ( strophanthidin , convallatoxin , tsimerin , K-strophanthin-beta E-strophanthoside , adonitoxin ); coumarins ( umbelliferon , skopoletin ); flavonoids ( apigenin , luteolin , vitexin , orientin , homoorientin ). Leaves contain vitamin C.
In terms of pharmacological actions, the aerial part of the plant is similar to that of the spring adonis, but in many ways inferior to the latter.
