History

The company was founded on October 1, 1993 by David Perry , a native of Virgin Interactive. On October 12, 1994, Shiny released its first game, Earthworm Jim . Graphics and animation unprecedented in those days, a fascinating plot and various levels made the game a hit of that time. In 1995, a sequel came out - Earthworm Jim 2 , which had a stronger, than the first part, bias in quests. In April 1997, the first 3D game of the company was released - a fantastic third-person shooter MDK . After that, Wild 9 and R / C Stunt Copter were released.

In the summer of 1997, several leading employees left the studio and founded their own Planet Moon Studios.

In 2000, another significant creation by Shiny was released - Messiah - an anti-utopian fairy tale imbued with harsh sarcasm and humor. In the same year, RTS / RPG Sacrifice was released , which received many positive reviews and became the first and last Shiny game focused on multiplayer.

In 2002, Interplay , the publisher and owner of Shiny, sold its Infogrames, which later became the revived Atari . The new owner commissioned Shiny to develop games based on the Matrix trilogy, and in 2003 Enter the Matrix was released - a noteworthy third-party beat 'em up, which received mostly low ratings. Released in 2005, The Matrix: Path of Neo also failed.

In February 2006, Atari announced the restructuring and sale of Shiny, and company founder David Perry resigned. In the end, David Perry did not return to the company and began to direct his forces to MMORPG games with Acclaim Games .

In October 2006, Atari sold Shiny to Foundation 9 Entertainment , which developed The Golden Compass. Later, the company, together with The Collective, was merged into Double Helix Games .
