Background to the Reservoir: Ternopol Pond
Ternopil pond was created almost at the time that the city itself. On March 15, 1548, Yan Tarnovsky , the founder of Ternopol and the owner of the Ternopol castle , received the privilege of building a dam and creating a pond. A pond was built in the flood plain of the Seret River as a link in the defensive fortifications against the attacks of the Turks and Tatars.
The borders of the pond in the middle of the XVI century were from Kutkovets to the Ternopil castle. In those years, the length of the pond was 7 km, the width was 2-3 km. A high dam was built along the Lviv road that exited the castle’s same gate. In the privilege of 1550, Jan Tarnowski, among other duties of the bourgeoisie, noted that their duties included the repair of the dam of a large pond, gutter and trays. The descent of the pond and the collection of the fish remaining at the bottom gave a profit of 16-24 thousand gold every three years.
Ternopil pond was of significant economic importance in the following centuries. In the XVII century , four mills worked on it, which brought great profits to the city. Many fish were bred in the pond; pike , perch , carp , crucian carp , catfish and other species were found here. Already at the beginning of the 20th century, the reservoir of Ternopil businessman Vladimir Trach, who exported fish to many cities in Poland, rented a pond.
The pond experienced periods of decline during the periods of the Tatar and Turkish attacks, but suffered most of all in the 20th century during the interwar period, when Ternopol was under Polish rule: the reservoir had a low water level and overgrown with silt. During World War II, the Ternopil Pond was completely destroyed.
By the middle of the 20th century, between the Old Castle and the Nadprudnaya Church there was an ancient district of Ternopol - Podzamche. There was also a city market, from which the name of the modern street - the Old Market. Podzamche was inhabited mainly by artisans and fishermen. In our time, this historic area has not been preserved. There are only two houses that once surrounded the market, and several houses on the street above the pond ( Ukrainian. Over the stav ).
Flora and Fauna
In the Ternopil pond there are many carps , catfish and pike . Some divers claim that individual catfish reached a length of two meters.
There are also many algae, yellow water lily predominates, which blooms in late June . In the west of the pond, near the Pronyatin district and the village of Bila, reeds and various species of willow grow.
Wild ducks and river gulls live in the reservoir.
Komsomolskoye Lake
Construction
In the 1950s , a large-scale restoration of Ternopol took place. The Ternopol pond of the city began to be restored in 1956, when it was decided to subordinate all water resources to local authorities. Then they built a new dam, and the water level became higher than it was before. The new reservoir occupied a much larger area - over 300 hectares, and they called it Komsomolsky Lake.
Landscaping
Between the reservoir and the city center, a Shevchenko park was laid, which stretches along the eastern shore of the lake. The island of Sidorenko (also known as the “island of Love” or “the island of Lovers”) was built.
In the 1960s, the beach near the Old Castle was liquidated and a parking lot for boats, yachts and boats was created there. Near the Old Castle built a central marina. The wide steps that lead to it were divided by a cascade of artificial waterfalls, which was called "Tears of Gronsky" (at that time Gronsky was the chief architect of the city). On the shores of the newly formed green zone, a restaurant called “Float” was built, from the terrace of which a view of the central part of the city was opened. A new beach was created near the restaurant, which over time was called "Middle". Not far from the village of Pronyatin , another beach was built, which was called "Far". In the 1970s, boat parking was moved to the opposite side of the pond, and the Marine Club was created there.
In the 1980s, the improvement of the territories around Komsomolskoye Lake did not stop. Behind the dam, the Pionersky Hydropark was created, which over time was renamed Topilche. And at the foot of the Zagrebelje forest park, they built the Moscow Hotel (in the 1990s it was renamed the Galichina Hotel).
In 1979, the first home-made windsurfer appeared on the lake under the auspices of the Marine Club DOSAAF [1] . In August 1987, Komsomolskoye Lake was the center of the world championship in water motor sports.
Great Fountain
In 1975, another decoration of his appeared on Komsomolskoe Lake - the Big Fountain, which was jokingly called the “Korodyuk Stream” ( Korodyuk was the head of the local city committee at that time). The height of the central jet reached fifteen meters, the side - up to five. The fountain performed not only an aesthetic function, but also an ecological one. Since water in the Komsomolskoye Lake stagnated due to the lack of flow under the eastern shores, the need for the construction of some kind of mechanism that could mix it began. So the idea of building a fountain appeared. Due to the high costs of its functioning, the fountain did not work every day, but mainly on weekends and holidays. In the 1990s, due to the economic crisis, the fountain was decommissioned. Since 2000, the fountain has been open only on Easter, on Independence Day of Ukraine and the Day of the city of Ternopil. In the spring of 2003, the fountain sank due to improper maintenance of the metalwork during the melting of the ice. In autumn 2007, a new one appeared on the site of the old fountain. It was installed by the Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar . In 2009, due to lack of money, the fountain was not installed, only the frame on which the pump was held remained.
Shipping
In 1968, a motor ship appeared in Ternopol, which was named after the Hero of the Soviet Union Grigory Danzorov , a participant in the liberation of the city from German occupation (1944). The motor ship of the Moskvich project was built in 1963 in Belarus . Initially, the vessel was called Zalishchyky, the first five navigations of the “ river tram ” went along the Dniester along the route from Stary Ushitsa, Khmelnitsky Region, to the Mill-Podolsk Ternopol Region.
In 1966, the second ship of the PT project (built in 1966) appeared on the pond. The PT-50 was slightly smaller than the Hero of Dancers . Vacationers distinguished motor ships as follows: “big boat” and “small boat”. On a hot summer weekend, the PT-50 and the “Hero of Dancers” went on a flight together. On cool days, the ships worked one at a time, one at a time. Motor ships were owned by the Marine Club. The motor ships stopped near the Moscow Hotel, near the Khutor restaurant, Far Beach and near the village of Pronyatin. The last stop was canceled during the construction of the pedestrian bridge. This bridge connects the Far Beach and the village of Belaya.
In the early 1990s the department to which the motor ships obeyed was disbanded and, in order to save the ship from being stolen, they were leased to a private Ternopil firm. However, the unstable economic situation in the country led to the fact that the new owner could issue only one ship - the Hero of Dancers. The motor ship PT-50 did not work. In 2005, the vessels were transferred to the balance of the utility company Ternopolelektrotrans , which was engaged in the technical maintenance of trolleybuses . In 2006, a major overhaul of the Hero of Dancers was carried out, the wheelhouse was replaced, the new one was made from the body of the Škoda 9Tr trolleybus . In June 2009, the overhaul of the PT-50 motor ship began, which was completely restored and now runs under the name "Captain T. G. Pariy."
