Story and characters
The game is based on the events of the film " Evil Dead 2 ", meanwhile offering an alternative version of the development of events, according to which Ash did not go back in time, and the book Necronomicon was not destroyed in the first film.
After the battle with evil, Ash Williams is recognized as insane in the forest hut and sent to the Sunny Meadows psychiatric clinic ( Rus. “Sunny Meadows” ), which is managed by Dr. Reinhard, who took possession of the Necronomicon and the diary of Professor Noubi. Six months later, Sally Bowline, Ash's lawyer, manages to steal a diary from Reinhard, after which she begins to realize that everything Ash told was true. At the same time, in the basement of the clinic, Reinhard, conducting experiments with the Necronomicon, releases into the world of Kandaria demons, who turn the patients and staff into deadweight patients.
After wandering around the clinic and returning his weapons and clothes, Ash descends into the cellars, where he meets the Noobi hologram. He explains that Reinhardt opened several gate portals in the vicinity, through which the demons arrive. Nooby gives Ash a mission to find and close these portals and, as an assistant, gives him the dwarf Sam (former Reinhardt patient), who has a mystical connection with the Necronomicon and knows where the portals are and how to close them. Nooubi also reports that Reinhard needs a diary from Sally to complete the ritual, and she is therefore in serious danger.
Having gone to another dimension, Reinhard kidnaps Sally with the help of demons and learns from Nobi's diary that the last ritual for the reign of demons on earth should be human sacrifice. Meanwhile, Ash and Sam during their mission get to the next portal in the port city of Turnham, where Sam incorrectly pronounces the closing spell, and the characters are transferred to the lair of Reinhardt, who is about to sacrifice Sally. Having overcome the Reinhardt with great difficulty, the heroes close the last portal and save Sally, who, however, turns out to be a deadweight and reopens the portal. Ash succeeds in killing Sally, but in the end he is pulled into the portal with Sam, possibly thereby continuing the original storyline, where Ash is near Kandar Castle in 1300 .
Gameplay
The game uses the popular cross-platform game engine RenderWare .
The gameplay is based on the principle of hack and slash / beat 'em up . The game has ten levels, the exits from which are usually guarded by the boss and / or the so-called "soul eaters" ( English Soul Eaters ), who need to bring and feed three "souls" stored in cocoon-growing eggs.
A feature of the game is the presence of the main character of the assistant character Sam. By default, Sam acts as an autonomous ally in battles, which Ash can also throw at the right places with an aimed kick. However, when he is at the level of a special mark, Ash can also gain complete control over Sam, who, being a dwarf, is able to crawl into locations inaccessible to Ash and open the way for him. Sam’s character is humorous and dies repeatedly during the game, after which he returns to life.
By analogy with the earlier The Suffering game, starting from the Forest level, Ash can also take on a demonic form for a while, turning into a deadweight, and in this mode inflicts double damage to the enemy. The deadweight scale is displayed on the screen in the form of a spine, just as the life bar can increase in length when finding the appropriate mark and is filled as the player collects the yellow substance (mainly remaining in the place of the defeated enemies).
There are also 20 separate Necronomicon pages hidden on the levels, and when they are opened, they open up various bonuses in the game menu - comments by Bruce Campbell, drawings and concept art of the game.

Weapons
At the same time, Ash has two types of weapons:
Left hand:

Most reviewers agree that, compared to previous games in the Evil Dead series, Regeneration looks encouraging, noting good sound effects, competent video directing, excellent dubbing and black humor. They criticize mainly the uniformity of the gameplay, the short duration of the game itself, the weakness of the combo-strike system.
