Intensive Care Unit

The intensive care unit and intensive care unit (ICU) , sometimes just the intensive care unit or intensive care unit [1], is an in-patient department in a large medical institution (hospital, hospital), at a medical university, designed to provide emergency medical care, intensive care and intensive care for patients. May have specialization: treatment of patients with certain diseases, newborns .

Departments of this type are either specialized in a multidisciplinary medical institution, or non-specialized. Specialized ICUs are divided by the type of pathology, which is mainly directed to them.

As a rule, ICU is one of the most financially expensive branches. This is due to the specifics of the work, the need to supply expensive drugs and specific expensive equipment.

The ICU is usually deployed separately, separated from the remaining departments by an additional door, in some cases a sanitary inspection room.

On average, in the ICU for 4-6 patients there is one doctor - a resuscitator , and 1-2 people of average medical staff . This number may vary depending on the type of pathology mainly coming to ICU and on the staffing of a particular hospital.

Patient Visit

In Russia, relatives can visit patients in intensive care, as confirmed by a representative of the Ministry of Health [1] . Earlier in early March 2016, an appeal to this agency was published on Change.org with a similar request. It was signed by more than 100 thousand people.
