Niger is located in West Africa and covers an area of 1,267,000 km². The size of the Republic of Niger is one of the largest West African states. Niger is landlocked. The highest point is Bagzan , 2,022 m. Most of the territory of Niger is located in the Sahara desert . In the desert zone there are 3/4 of the territory of Niger and only 1/4 in the savanna zone.
The total length of the state border is 5.697 km: with Algeria - 956 km, Benin - 266 km, Burkina Faso - 628 km, Chad - 1.175 km, Libya - 354 km, Mali - 821 km, Nigeria - 1.497 km.
In the relief of the country is dominated by plains with heights of 300-500 m above sea level. In the north-west is an array of Air - a system of uneven plateaus. The eastern part of Aira steeply climbs to the vast sandy desert of Tenere , with an area of about 400 thousand km ². In the northeast is the steep Kauar . The northern part of the country is occupied by a high stony plateau. In the south of the country there is a plateau composed of loams, dense lateritic sands, sometimes sandstones.
The special natural region of the country forms the valley of the Niger River (in the south-west of the country) - there are most favorable conditions for life, because there is water.
In general, Niger is one of the hottest countries in the world. During the whole year, the midday heat is at least + 30 °, the minimum temperature is + 8 °.
The country's interior contains reserves of uranium, tin, coal, iron ore, phosphate, gold, molybdenum, and oil.
