Varvara Pavlovna Adrianova-Peretts ( April 30 [ May 12 ] 1888 , Nizhyn, Chernihiv province - June 6, 1972 , Leningrad ) - Soviet literary critic , a specialist in the study of ancient Russian satire, folklore, poetry, religious traditions of the XI - XVII centuries . Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (09/29/1943), Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1926), Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1959).

Biography
As a scientist, she formed in the Seminary of Russian Philology by Professor V. N. Peretz , who soon became her husband. The report of Varvara Pavlovna “Philology and its methods” on October 10, 1907 opened in Kiev the first meeting of the Seminary [3] . In 1910 she graduated from the Kiev Higher Women's Courses and in 1911-1914 taught at them, and since 1915 she taught at the Higher Pedagogical Courses at the Petrograd Women's Pedagogical Institute (since 1917 - professor).
In 1917 she became a laureate of the Lomonosov Prize for the study of Russian spiritual verse: “The Life of Alexei the Man of God in Ancient Russian Literature and Popular Literature” (Pg., 1917).
During 1917-1921 she taught at the Samara Pedagogical Institute . In 1921-1930 she worked on courses for the training of researchers at the State Institute of Art History (Leningrad).
Since 1934, she was a senior researcher in the Department of Old Russian Literature of the Institute of Russian Literature ( Pushkin House ) of the USSR Academy of Sciences; in 1947-1954 she headed the Sector of Old Russian Literature, and in 1950-1951 - at the same time also the Folklore Sector.
She was buried at the memorial cemetery in the village of Komarovo .
