Jalilabad

Jalilabad ( Azerb. Cəlilabad ) is the city and administrative center of the Jalilabad region of Azerbaijan. Located in the north of the Lenkoran lowland, 12 km west of the railway station Novogolovka.

Content

History

Originally, the settlement was called Hasylly, which is a generic name (from the personal name of Hasil - Persian fruit, benefit and suffix -ly (li) of the clan unit). Later, the village Hasylly received the name Astrakhan-Bazar [2] . In 1967, the city ​​was renamed to Jalilabad , in honor of the Azerbaijani writer Jalil Mammadguluzadeh .

On December 29, 1989, in Jalilabad, the Popular Front activists seized the building of the city committee of the party, while dozens of people were injured [3] .

Population
