Career
Telmo Sarraonindindia, or simply Sarah, son of the technical chief of Don Telmo Sarraonindindia Salazar and mother of Donna Thomasas Montoya. They were both from the Roma ethnic group. Sarah followed in the footsteps of his elder brother, the winner of the Samora trophy in the season 1930-1931 to the best goalkeeper Examples . But Telmo became an attacker. He played the season with the Erandio team, after which he signed a contract with Athletic Bilbao (in 1941 the club changed its name to Atletico Bilbao, following Franco’s linguistic policy, according to which all non-Hispanic names were forbidden [3] ), in which he spent most of his career.
He made his debut in the first Spanish division on September 29, 1940 in a match with Valencia , scoring both goals of the club, and the match ended with the score 2: 2. At Atlético, he earned his first Pichichi trophy, which he won another 5 times. His record for the number of goals in the championship of Spain (251 goals) was broken only in 2014 by Lionel Messi . He also set a 60-year record for the most goals in one season (1950/51 - 38). Subsequently, this record was repeated by Hugo Sanchez in the 1989/90 season, and in the 2010/11 season the record was broken by Cristiano Ronaldo .
Despite all his achievements, Sarah played only 20 matches in the national team, scoring 20 goals, 4 of them in a historical game in which Spain defeated Switzerland 6: 3 on February 18, 1951. He made his team debut on March 11, 1945 in a game with Portugal (2: 2). Sarah became the author of the famous goal in Rio de Janeiro , in a match with England (1: 0), which allowed Spain to reach the semifinals of the World Cup. At that championship, Sarah scored 4 goals in 6 games.
With Atletico, Sarah won the Spanish Championship and 5 King Cups, forming one of the most famous lines of attack in the history of Spanish football (Sarah, Paniso, Rafa Iriondo, Venancio and Agustin Gainsa ).
After leaving Atlético in 1955, he played one season for the Indauthi and one for the Baracaldo and ended his career. In total, he spent 277 matches in the top Spanish division.
He died on February 23, 2006 of a heart attack. The funeral was held on February 27, and a day earlier Athletic gave the last honors to the player in the match with Villarreal . In honor of the football player, the newspaper Mark approved the prize of Sarah , awarded to the best scorer of the Spanish National Championship. He scored 337 goals for Atlético in 354 games at all levels. After his death, the stadium “San” spent an impressive minute of silence, during which the club’s anthem was played on the piano, and after spending a minute in silence, the whole stadium began to accompany the footballer with applause.
