Cape Ann is a rocky peninsula that borders the Massachusetts Bay from the north . The peninsula is located in Essex County , Massachusetts, about 50 km northeast of Boston . On the peninsula there are municipalities of the cities of Gloucester , Manchester , Essex and Rockport .
Name Origin
The first cape on the maps was caused by the English navigator John Smith of Jamestown , who named the cape of Tragabigzanda ( English Tragabigzanda , probably from the Indian name of his lover). However, later Charles I renamed it Cape Anna , in honor of his mother, Anna of Denmark . [one]
History
The first British settlements on the peninsula arose in 1624 .
