The Congolese Union for Democracy (RKD, from the French Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie ) is a rebel group of Congolese Tutsis ( Banyamulenges ), founded in August 1998 by Ernest Wamba di Wamba as a result of the removal from the Alliance of Democratic Forces for the Liberation of the Congo ( ADFL ). They were the initiators of the rebellion that provoked the Second Congolese War . Maintain close ties with the Government of Rwanda . On May 20, 1999 , the organization split into RKD-Wamba (RKD- Kisangani ) and actually RKD-Ilung (RKD- Goma ). The first group reoriented to Uganda . There were clashes between the groups. During the war, RKD units control the eastern regions of the DR Congo (especially North and South Kivu , Maniema , Ituri ). After the war in the 2003 elections , the RKD won 94 out of 500 seats in the National Assembly, and the leader of the movement received the post of vice president .
