Biography
Born in the family of an accountant from Verona . He began to paint in his hometown. As a teenager he entered the School of Fine Arts in Dijon , where he studied with the decorator and artist Nicolardo. In 1851 he went to Paris, but on the way he stayed for six months in Lyon , where he studied with the artist , who painted the chapel in the Lyon . First exhibited in 1857 at the Paris Salon ( Portrait of his father ). After that, he began to seriously engage in engraving. In Paris, Legros studied with Charles-Antoine Cambon, an artist-decorator. He also attended the Lecoca de Bouabodrana School "Little School". In 1855, he attended evening classes at the School of Fine Arts. At the beginning of 1862 he undertook a study trip to Spain lasting almost a year. Soon after returning to his homeland in the winter of 1862 - 1863 he moved to live in England.
He was a friend of Whistler , who persuaded him to move to England , where he lived.
Legros worked as a professor at the South Kensington School of Art and at the Slade School of Art at University College London .
The artist died in Watford in 1911.
