Features
- Slamd64 is a Slackware semi-official port on the x86-64 platform. During the creation of Slamd64, the original Slackware did not support the x86-64 platform, but Fred Emmott received official permission to use the attributes (logo, name) of the original Slackware.
- Unlike some other Linux distributions for the x86-64 platform, Slamd64 uses “lib” directories for 32-bit programs and lib64 for 64-bit ones. This creates some difficulties when using programs created for other distributions for the x86-64 platform, however, it provides 100% compatibility with 32-bit packages created for the original Slackware.
- Slamd64 11.0 does not contain a 32-bit program compiler, which makes it difficult to install the Linux version of the Oracle DBMS and some other 32-bit programs.
- Although the developer adheres to the principle of unity of software with the original Slackware, in fact there are differences in package versions. This is due primarily to the fact that older versions of the corresponding software do not support (or support incorrectly) the x86-64 platform.
