Fourth Fleet - The operational fleet of the US Navy in the South Atlantic . It existed in 1943-50, it was recreated in the summer of 2008 , despite the protests of the leaders of Brazil , Argentina and Venezuela [1] .

The fleet is based on the base of the US Navy Mapport , Jacksonville , Florida ; its areas of responsibility include the Caribbean , Central and South America . Commander (since July 1, 2008) - Rear Admiral Joseph Kernan ( born Joseph D. Kernan ).
According to the US Department of Defense, the reenactment of the fleet is designed to discourage drug trafficking , humanitarian operations, goodwill, and joint exercises with regional security partners [2] .
Full staffing of the fleet is expected no earlier than 2009 . In mid-2008, it included two universal landing ships USS Kearsarge and USS Boxer ( eng. USS Boxer (LHD-4) ) [3] .

The current fleet
With the exception of the headquarters and support departments, operational fleets of a permanent composition do not have. Forces and assets are allocated to them by order of the Naval Operations Headquarters as necessary.
