Discovery History

Neso's first observations were made on August 14 , 16 and September 3, 2002, by groups of astronomers led by Matthew Holman and Brett Gladman . However, it was found in the photographs received only in 2003 . The satellite received the provisional designation S / 2002 N 4 [4] . The proper name was assigned on February 3, 2007 [5] .

Features

Neso is drawn at a distance of over 48 million km from Neptune. This makes it the farthest known satellite from its planet. Neso's orbit is comparable in size to heliocentric orbits. So, for example, Neso in the apoposeidia is 72 million km away from Neptune, while Mercury in aphelion is only 70 million km away from the Sun. But the satellite makes one revolution around Neptune in more than 25.5 years, which is the highest indicator among all the moons of the solar system.

In orbital parameters, Neso has a close resemblance to Psamafa . These two satellites may be fragments of an earlier larger satellite [2] .
