Description
The Kaleici Museum of Suna and Inan Kyrach works under the auspices of the Institute of Mediterranean Civilizations Research Suna and Inan Kyrach at the Wehchi Koç Foundation [1] .
The museum occupies two historic buildings, which are cultural monuments, in the old urban area of Kaleici. The buildings that were in a neglected state were acquired by Suna and Inan Kyrach in 1993 and were restored in 1995 [2] . During the restoration work, the preserved decoration of the Tekelioğlu Konak guesthouse , which was preserved in the same Kaleici district, was taken as the basis [2] . The ceilings are decorated with wooden panels, and the walls are decorated with paintings [2] .
One building is a typical two-story house of a Turkish family and gives an idea of the life of a resident of the urban area of Kaleici. An interesting feature of the house is that the garden continues under the house. This detail of the house is called “tashlyk” ( taşlık ) and was characteristic of all residential buildings in Antalya [2] .
In three rooms on the second floor there is an ethnographic exhibition, where the daily life of the citizens of the second half of the XIX century is presented [2] . The elements of the museum’s exposition are the demonstration of rituals typical of Anatolia’s local culture: coffee treats, groom’s haircut and henna night (bride’s bachelorette) [3] .
The second building of the museum is the former Orthodox Church of St. George ( in Turkish : Ayia Yorgi). The surviving inscription, written in Turkish, but in Greek letters , speaks of the restructuring of the former church in 1863. The building is rectangular in shape with a vaulted roof. The walls and the ceiling inside are painted. Currently, it houses a collection of objects of culture and art from the collection of Suna and Inan Kyrach [2] .
