Moscow Trio (Shora Trio)

Musicians of the Moscow trio on a pre-revolutionary postcard

The Moscow Trio is a Russian piano trio performing in 1892 - 1924 .

It was founded by graduates of the Moscow Conservatory, pianist David Shor , violinist David Crane and cellist Modest Altshuler . After the emigration of M. Altshuler ( 1894 ), the cello console in the ensemble was occupied by Rudolf Erlich . In 1907 , David Shor left the ensemble for a short time, and Alexander Goldenweiser appeared in the trio, then Shor again took his place.

In the series “Historical chamber mornings”, the Moscow trio, following the ideas of Anton Rubinstein , consistently combined the works of classics and modern composers; among the premieres of the ensemble is the trio of Alexander Grechaninov ( 1907 ) [1] . The trio toured Europe as well - in particular, in 1904 , performing in London as part of the Broadwood concerts cycle, along with such outstanding world ensembles as the Czech Quartet and Kneisel Quartet [2] ; the trio toured both in Berlin and in Paris [3] , traveled to various Russian cities (for example, to Rostov ) [4] , performed in the estate of Leo Tolstoy [5] . The ensemble ceased to exist with the death of Rudolf Erlich in September 1924.
