Biography
Alexander German was born on May 24, 1915 in Petrograd in the family of an employee. According to some reports - German [1] . After graduating from the seven-year plan, Herman worked as a locksmith and studied at the automotive engineering college.
In November 1933, Alexander German joined the Red Army . In 1937 he graduated from the Oryol Armored School and served in a mechanized brigade. The beginning of World War II caught him as a second-year student of the MV Frunze Military Academy .
Since July 1941, German served in the intelligence department of the headquarters of the North-Western Front , and then acted as deputy commander of the 2nd special partisan intelligence brigade.
Since the summer of 1942, Major Alexander German is the commander of the 3rd Leningrad partisan brigade. Under his command, the brigade destroyed several thousand enemy soldiers and officers, derailed more than three hundred railway trains, blew up hundreds of vehicles and saved thirty-five thousand Soviet citizens from slavery.
From June 1942 to September 1943, a brigade under the command of Herman destroyed 9,652 Nazis, 44 crashed railway trains with manpower and enemy equipment, 31 railway bridges were blown up, 17 enemy garrisons were destroyed, and up to 70 volost administrations .
Major German died the death of the brave on September 6, 1943, leaving an enemy encirclement near the village of Zhitnitsy, Novorzhevsky District, Pskov Region . He was buried in the square of the city of Valdai, Novgorod region .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 2, 1944, for the exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown to them, Major German Alexander Viktorovich was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

Memory
By order of the head of the Leningrad headquarters of the partisan movement of September 7, 1943, the 3rd Leningrad partisan brigade was named after her heroically deceased commander.
In the village of Zhitnitsy [2] , where German was killed, an obelisk was built [3] [4] . Streets were named after Hero and memorial plaques were installed in the cities of St. Petersburg, Valdai , Veliky Novgorod , Novorzhev , Ostrov , Pskov and Porkhov .
