Biography

Bill Sherman graduated from the University of Southern California , from 1944 to 1946 he served in the navy .

In 1950, Sherman was selected in the second round of the NBA draft by the Washington Capitols Club. A year later, he moved to Boston Celtics , where he formed a duet of defenders with Bob Cousey . From 1950 to 1955, Sherman also professionally played for the Brooklyn Dodgers Baseball Club (now the Los Angeles Dodgers ). In the “Boston Celtics” Sherman four times became the champion of the NBA, eight times participated in the match of all the stars , seven times was included in the symbolic team of NBA stars . In 1961, Bill ended his playing career, in just 11 seasons in the NBA, he played 711 games, made 2,779 rebounds, 2,101 interceptions and scored 12,665 points.

In 1966, Sherman began his coaching career, leading the San Francisco Warriors . In the season 1970-1971 led the club "Uta Stars" to victory in the championship of the American Basketball Association . The following year, he led the Los Angeles Lakers and led him to the first victory in the NBA Championship in more than ten years, Sherman himself was named NBA coach of the year . Coached the Lakers until 1976.

In 1976, Sherman was included in the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player [1] , and in 2004 as a coach [2] . Bill is one of four people who were included in the Hall of Fame in both categories, the other three are John Wooden , Lenny Wilkens and Tom Heinson . October 29, 1996 Sherman was included in the list of the 50 greatest players in the history of the NBA .
