Saatli

Saatli ( azerb. Saatlı ) is a city, the administrative center of the Saatli region , 180 km from Baku. Located on the right bank of the Araks River [1] .

History

 
Saatli village before the revolution. (1905-1915)

The village of Saatly belonged to the Jevat district of Baku province . By a decree of May 25, 1943, a new district with the center in Saatli was allocated from the Sabirabad region . September 24, 1947 the village of Saatly was classified as urban-type villages [2] . In 1971, received the status of a city [1] .

Population

According to the " Caucasian calendar " for 1910, 307 people lived in the village of Saatli in the Jevat district of Baku province in 1908, and 323 people lived in 1912, consisting mainly of Azerbaijanis designated as "Tatars" [3] [4] . According to the "Caucasian calendar" for 1915, the population of Saatli decreased to 235 people. [5] .

According to the 1959 census , 5,936 people lived in Saatli [6] . In 1975, the population of the city was 10,700 inhabitants [1] . According to the 1979 census of the city in Saatli, there were 10,986 people [7] , and in 1989 it reached 14,200 people [8] .
