Production
The film was expected by fans of the game back in 1993, when the first part of Doom was released. In 1994 and 1995, id Software sold the rights to shoot Doom to two film studios, but they did not take the opportunity to make a film. The next nine years, the film project could not come to a logical conclusion. In 2002, it became known that Warner Bros. acquired the right to shoot. In 2003, Warner Bros. lost the rights to the film, which passed into the hands of Universal Pictures ; Universal launched the film in production in 2004.
In a recent interview, executive producer John Wells said that if the first part of the film pays off, then releasing the second part will be a matter of time. Weekend sales totaled more than $ 15.3 million, but quickly fell to $ 4.2 million, which puzzled Universal executives.
One of the most remarkable moments of the film is the first-person battle scene, which is very similar to the process of playing Doom 3 . In this scene, the camera presents the viewer with the eyes of a Demon, who runs through a zombie-filled laboratory in search of his sister.
Awards and nominations
The film was nominated for the 2005 Golden Raspberry Award in the Worst Actor category (Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson).
Criticism
The film received negative reviews from the press and critics. The film received only 36% approval of 40% positive reviews on Rotten Tomattos.
