History
It got its name from the nearby Moscow State University. Lomonosov . The choice of station location (at a relatively large distance from the university building complex) was due to the fact that it was impossible to build a foundation pit and track tunnels in close proximity to the main building of Moscow State University . In addition, the station's location provides proximity to land transportation routes and nearby residential areas.
The station was opened on January 12, 1959 as part of the Sportivnaya -Universitet section, after commissioning of which there were 55 stations in the Moscow Metro. With the opening of the station, the construction of the Fifth stage of the Moscow metro was completed.
Lobbies and Transplants
On both sides of Vernadsky Avenue (at the intersection with Lomonosovsky Avenue ) there are two vestibule rototons . Entrance architects - N. A. Bykova , I. G. Taranov , with the participation of Yu. A. Cherepanov.
Both lobbies are built according to a similar project, they are single-story buildings with a flat roof, a wide cornice, leaning on a number of columns encircling the lobby. Most of the walls are tall windows. Entrance and exit from the lobby are separated, from the outside between them the walls are bordered by a series of low and wide benches. The cash room and service premises are located in the outer semicircle at the entrance.
The northern lobby has access to Javaharlal Nehru Square (the intersection of Lomonosovsky Prospekt and Vernadsky Prospekt ), the south - on the other side of Vernadsky Prospekt, somewhat in the depth of the block (there is a tram ring in front of it).
The entrance to the south lobby is via stairs from the center of the hall, then along the passage and the escalator slope. The transition walls are faced with red marble, the floor is finished with gray granite. Passengers get to the north lobby directly from the north end of the station.
In the southern vestibule from 1967 to 2015 was the Moscow Metro's Lost Warehouse (in the period from 1953 to 1967 it was located in the ground lobby of the Komsomolskaya station, currently located at the Kotelniki station [1] ). Here, for three months, things were forgotten that were forgotten at the stations, in the vestibules or in the cars of electric trains. After three months, the lost things go to the State Fund. The entrance to the warehouse was located in the southern part of the lobby, in the outer semicircle (on the left side of the entrance from Vernadsky Avenue) under the sign of the police station.
It is planned to replace escalators. [2]

Specifications
The design of the station is a pylon three - vaulted deep laying (laying depth - 26.5 meters). The diameter of the central hall is 9.5 meters, the side - 8.5 meters. Lining made of cast-iron tubing. Behind the station there are revolving dead ends for maintenance and sludge trains.
Design
The station was the last in the Moscow metro, structurally similar to other deep-seated stations built in the style of Stalinist architecture [3] .
The massive pylons of the station hall are faced with light marble . The dead end of the station is not decorated in any way, it is decorated with the same marble (an office staircase to the sub-platform premises is located on the wall). The track walls of the station are decorated with glazed ceramic tiles: the top is yellow, the bottom is black. The flooring is gray and pink granite . The walls of the passage passage to the exit to Vernadsky Avenue are faced with red marble, the floor is tiled with gray and pink granite slabs.
