Dushkevich was a very valiant man, honest, direct, quite sharp in circulation, and quite intelligent in the field of tactical use of troops; being already an old man and suffering from a bullet wound in the chest in Manchuria, he did not easily endure the field life and above all needed rest, not only during the whole night, but during the day. At first, this created great difficulties for me, because usually all orders from the army were received late and often the nights were spent in intensive work on the management of the corps; but after a few days Dushkevich declared to me that I did not bother to receive his sanctions in a timely manner, that he believed me and that I could dispose of his name myself. From the point of view of normal command and control, this was a blatant disgrace, albeit quite common in our army, but for me this order was very convenient; in addition, it is extremely time saving.
