The National Register of Historic Places of the USA ( eng. National Register of Historic Places ) is the official list of historical monuments maintained by the US federal government . The list includes separate historical buildings, whole historical districts and other objects (for example, museum ships).

The register of historical places automatically includes all objects that have the status of a National Historic Monument ( English National Historic Landmark ). However, most of the registry objects do not have this status: out of about eighty thousand objects of the list, only 2430 have the status of a National Historic Monument.
The registry has been maintained since 1966 .
