Biography

The son of a radical deputy , Jorge Benito Urteaga, was one of the key figures in the leadership of the Trotskyist Revolutionary Workers Party , to which he joined between 1968 and 1969 as part of the Leninist movement (the majority faction led by Roberto Santucho ). In practice, Urteaga became number two in the organization.

On July 29, 1970 , at the 5th Congress of the RPT , he actively advocated the creation of the Russian Academy of Sciences and immediately joined in the planning and conduct of its armed actions.

In November 1970 , Urteaga was arrested for participating in an operation at the Northern Commercial Bank ( Spanish: Banco Comercial del Norte ), but on September 6 the following year, together with 17 comrades, escaped from custody.

From late 1971 to August 1972 , Urteaga assumed leadership of the RPT since Santucho , Gorriaran, and Menna are in prison . The internal situation was complicated by the fact that in addition to the ongoing arrests of members of the organization, fractions were formed in the Revolutionary Army of the people : RAS-Red Faction ( Trotskyist ) ( Spanish ERP Fracción Roja ) and RAS-22 August ( Peronist ) ( Spanish ERP 22 de Agosto ) .

On May 25, 1973 , Urteaga began to actively establish contacts and select people from among industrial workers, including from the Ford plant.

In 1975 , Urteaga became the editor of the party publication "Fighter" ( Spanish: El Combatiente ), and in April held a series of lectures and seminars on the phased preparation of members of the organization. After the seizure by the authorities, in early December of that year, Juan Ledesma , Urteaga replaced him in leading an attack on the military barracks of Monte Chingolo .

Issued by a provocateur, on July 19, 1976 , Urteaga and Santucho died in battle when, together with the leaders of other organizations, they discussed the possibility of creating an “Organization for the Liberation of Argentina” ( Spanish Organización para la Liberación de Argentina ).
