Biography
Henri Russo was born May 21, 1844 in the town of Laval ( department Mayenne ), in a plumbing family. After serving in the army, he got a job at French customs . He began to engage in painting already in adulthood, without having the appropriate education.
After the death of his father, Rousseau moved to Paris in 1886 and for the first time showed his work to the general public, participating in the "Exhibition of Independents" . During his lifetime in the French art community, he was highly appreciated for the coloristic richness of his works and original subjects (Rousseau often draws exotic jungles that he had never seen in his life).
Rousseau married Clemence Buatar in 1886, with whom he had six children. His wife died in 1888, and he married Josephine Noirie in 1898.
The artist died of gangrene on September 2, 1910 in the Paris Necker Hospital ( Fr. ) after injuring his leg.
The tombstone on the grave of Henri Rousseau was made by the great French sculptor of Romanian origin, Konstantin Brynkushi .

Feature films
- 2018, the television series Genius, Season 2, Episode 6. The episode describes the acquaintance of Pablo Picasso with Henri Russo. According to the plot of the series, Picasso saw a picture of Rousseau in the shop of a merchant, being in France, and bought it for only 5 francs. He later threw a party in honor of an artist whom no one accepted in society because of his primitive way of portraying reality .
