Biography
After World War II, he received from his father, Giovanni Bertone, a car dealership Carrozzeria Bertone , a growing small business in the automotive and engine design industries. After racing in Fiat , OSCA , Maserati and Ferrari cars, Bertone went into the design, agreeing to build his first car - it was a whole series of MG 200 models, presented in 1952 at the Turin Motor Show . In the same year, he drew attention to the Paris Motor Show and chose the Abarth concept for designing a replacement for the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante . These were cars, the so-called Alfa Romeo BAT (Berlina Aerodinamica Technica), used as a chassis for the Alfa Romeo 1900 Sprint .
Two years later, in Turin, Burton introduced the Storm Z concept car based on the Dodge chassis along with its latest BAT concepts and Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint prototype, which will become the company's main products for the coming years. Bertone built more than 31,000 cases in 1960, including the Fiat 850 Spider , Fiat Dino , Simca 1200S , Alfa Romeo Montreal and Lamborghini . His 100th design project is a special Ford Mustang , introduced in 1965 at the New York Auto Show (commissioned by Automobile Quarterly).
The design of Ferrari models from Bertone was a radical change for this company and brought to the wrath of rival Pininfarina . The two 250GT coupes were only a harbinger of the controversial 308GT4 in the 1970s.
