The Russian Language Council under the Government of the Russian Federation was re-established by the decision of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev in November 2013 [1] , it was headed by Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets .
Background
The Russian Language Council under the Government of the Russian Federation existed from December 31, 1997 to July 26, 2004. From December 7, 1995 to May 23, 1997 there was a Russian Language Council under the President of the Russian Federation .
In June 2000, on the recommendation of the Russian Language in the Media Commission of the Russian Language Council, the Russian Language Reference and Information Portal was created ( Gramota.ru ).
As reported on April 16, 2002, the Russian Language Council under the Government of the Russian Federation postponed the introduction of new spelling rules indefinitely. [2]
Earlier, speaking at the conference “Language Policy in Modern Russia”, the president of the Russian Language Support Fund [3] Lyudmila Putin called the proposals of the Russian Academy of Sciences to change spelling unreasonable. According to her, the Russian language is under development, and "in this era is completely untimely" to reform it. [four]
In 2012, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the board of trustees and the board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation , which promotes the Russian language and culture.
