Financing
eRepublik received 2.75 million euros in investment [2] . The main source of income for the game is the sale of virtual values.
Gameplay
ERepublik includes elements of a social network and an MMO strategy, where players are offered a large number of ways to participate in public life. Residents can be hired, have their own business, organize political parties, vote in presidential and parliamentary elections, publish newspapers, declare war on other states and participate in them as regular army soldiers. The game has a fairly friendly text interface. Before joining, a resident chooses which state he wants to be a representative of. Each of these countries has the same name as its prototype in the real world and initially occupies the same territory. The declared advantage of the game is that it requires "no more than 14 minutes a day." At the same time, for full participation requires much more time. [3]
The currency used is virtual national currencies and gold, which is a universal currency and can be used to purchase additional opportunities (creation of companies, parties, etc.). Virtual gold can be bought for money or received for free for successes in political, public or military life.
ERepublik Modules
Economic module
The economy is based on 6 branches of production: 3 resources (grain, iron, building materials), 3 commodities (food, weapons, home). Using a certain amount of game gold, a player can buy or open a company, which activates the capabilities of the "general manager": hire other players, assign salaries to them, buy resources and sell their products in the domestic or foreign markets.
Also, all citizens have a plot of land where they can build various buildings, such as farms, mines, factories, warehouses and buildings for training βstrengthβ. All these buildings can be used only once a day to produce raw materials, goods, and also increase the strength of a citizen, (a value that determines what damage a player inflicts in battles). Buildings can be built using national currency or gold.
The amount of manufactured products in buildings depends on the available resources owned by the country. There are 10 different resources, each increasing production by 20% for any food building, or weapon building. The same natural resources do not give any bonuses.
Political Module
Players can join the party after reaching a certain level. After joining a party, a player can run for president of the party, which selects congressional candidates from that party.
On the fifth of every month in the world of the game, presidential elections are held, 15 - elections of the head of the party and 25 - elections to the congress.
Before the presidential election, the first 5 largest parties select their candidate, and after that a direct vote of the population takes place. The winner is determined by a simple majority vote. The elected president can propose laws to Congress and control the course of the war.
Congressional elections are a bit more complicated - the party leader chooses candidates from a certain region before the elections, then the population of that region votes to determine the winner. The total number of congressmen is 40 if the number of regions is not less than 4. Large countries have more congressmen, since each region receives one representative, regardless of the number of people. Congressmen can propose and enact laws, issue citizenship, and impeach .
Military Module
To declare war on another state, the president or the Congress of the country proposes the law of the Natural Enemy (Natural Enemy). If the law passes (at least 66% of the votes cast by all congressmen who vote for it), then the two countries will be at war, and then the president of the aggressor country will have the right to choose the region that will be attacked (if he does not make a choice , after 24 hours, the region will be selected automatically). After the end of each battle, the country that won the previous battle gets the right to choose, and this process continues until the end of the war.
If any initial region of a country is captured by another country, any resident of this region can deposit a thousand units of currency to start the war of liberation, which will automatically start after the accumulation of ten thousand units of this currency. Countries can sign mutual defense pacts to jointly repel aggression. In wars, citizens of the warring countries fight on their own, but often unite in military units (MU, Military Unit).
News Module
Any player can create a newspaper in which articles can be published. Other players can read these articles, vote for them, comment and subscribe to the newspaper.
Gameplay
The goal of a player is to become a leader in one or more of these areas. Players can use newspapers to advertise themselves, their company, party or country. Congress can manage a country's economy by setting tax rates. A successful war requires a stable economy and an organized, motivated army. As part of the game, World Wars periodically erupt with the involvement of many countries and military blocs. Such wars are often accompanied by the seizure of territories or the complete annexation of a losing state.
