Hesychia ( Bulgarian. Hesychia) is a Bulgarian musical group created in 2000 and performing folk music, as well as Christian Hesychastic chants of the 14th century , which creates an atmosphere of Balkan spiritual mysticism. Many of the group’s songs reflect the themes of the medieval history of Bulgaria, mainly the period of the Ottoman invasion and attempts to combat the Balkans, as well as the early Ottoman rule in Bulgaria (that is, the XIV-XV centuries), as well as other tragic events in the history of Bulgaria, such as the battle under the Key of 1014.

Name Origin
The music of the group is a kind of retrospective of Bulgarian history and spiritual traditions. The music of the group combines elements of the music of peoples living on the land of today's Bulgaria for centuries (including Slavs and Turks ) and, above all, the Byzantine choral tradition. Many texts are written in Church Slavonic . Many songs tell about the events of the turbulent history of the Bulgarian people, mainly about the Ottoman invasion of the Balkans and attempts to repulse it, as well as other tragic moments of Bulgarian history, such as the battle in the Struma gorge.
The nature of the group’s creative mission is perhaps best reflected in its name, which is given in honor of the Late Byzantine Hesychast religious movement, which says that everything is mortal, and the final destination - the salvation of the soul - can only be achieved through the Orthodox faith. The word " hesychasm " means harmony and mystical communion with God .
